Azerbaijani style guide

Scope

This page covers Azerbaijani written in the Latin script.

Voice

  • Match the audience: technical terms for technical readers, common words and phrases for consumers.
  • Choose words and grammatical structures that reflect the style of the source text.
  • Keep the general style clear, friendly, concise.
  • Use language of everyday conversation, not the formal technical language of technical and commercial content.
  • Choose non-standard translations when they keep the intent of the source better.
  • Do not translate literally. Translate the intent and what the customer needs to complete the task.

Word choice

  • Use short, simple, everyday words. Short words save screen space and read faster.
  • Convey the voice with shortened forms of words and everyday words.
  • Under a space limitation, prefer shorter phrases, not abbreviated ones.
  • Keep to approved terminology. Do not use different target terms for already approved terms.
  • en application -> proq: use proq instead of tətbiqiproqram or proqram.
  • en browser -> veb-səyyah: use veb-səyyah instead of vebbaxışproqramı.
  • en click -> klikləmək: use for click instead of basın or sıxın.

Sample voice text

  • Address the user to take action:
  • en The password isn't correct, so please try again. Passwords are case-sensitive. -> Parol düzgün olmadığı üçün yenidən cəhd edin. Parollar böyük-kiçik hərflərə həssasdır.
  • en This product key didn't work. Please check it and try again. -> Bu məhsul açarı işləmədi. Onu yoxlayın və yenidən cəhd edin.

  • en Would you like to continue? -> Davam etmək istərdinizmi?
  • en Give your PC a name–any name you want. If you want to change the background color, turn high contrast off in PC settings. -> Kompüterinizə istədiyiniz adı verin. Fon rəngini dəyişmək istəsəniz, kompüter parametrlərində yüksək kəskinliyi söndürün.
  • Explanatory text and providing support:
  • en The updates are installed, but Windows Setup needs to restart for them to work. After it restarts, we'll keep going from where we left off. -> Yeniləmələr quraşdırılıb, lakin onların işləməsi üçün Windows Quraşdırması yenidən başladılmalıdır. O yenidən başladıldıqdan sonra biz tərk etdiyimiz yerdən davam edəcəyik.
  • en If you restart now, you and any other people using this PC could lose unsaved work. -> Əgər indi yenidən başlatsanız, siz və bu kompüterdən istifadə edən digər insanlar saxlanmamış işi itirə bilərsiniz.
  • en This document will be automatically moved to the right library and folder after you correct invalid or missing properties. -> Siz yanlış və ya çatışmayan xüsusiyyətləri düzəltdikdən sonra, bu sənəd avtomatik olaraq düzgün kitabxana və qovluğa aparılacaq.
  • en Something bad happened! Unable to locate downloaded files to create your bootable USB flash drive. -> Səhv baş verib! Özü yüklənən USB fləş qurğunuzu yaratmaq üçün yüklənmiş faylları tapmaq mümkün deyil.
  • Promoting a feature:
  • en Picture password is a new way to help you protect your touchscreen PC. You choose the picture—and the gestures you use with it—to create a password that's uniquely yours. -> Şəkilli parol toxunuş ekranlı kompüterinizin qorunmasına kömək etməyin yeni bir yoludur. Ancaq sizə məxsus olan bir parol yaratmaq üçün — şəkli və birlikdə istifadə edəcəyiniz jestləri — seçin.
  • en Let apps give you personalized content based on your PC's location, name, account picture, and other domain info. -> Proqramlara kompüterinizin yeri, adı, hesab şəkli və digər domen məlumatlarına əsaslanaraq, sizə fərdiləşdirilmiş məzmun vermək imkanı verin.
  • Providing how-to guidelines:
  • en To go back and save your work, click Cancel and finish what you need to. -> Geri qayıtmaq və işinizi saxlamaq üçün İmtina et klikləyin və əməliyyatı bitirin.
  • en To confirm your current picture password, just watch the replay and trace the example gestures shown on your picture. -> Cari şəkilli parolunuzu təsdiq etmək üçün yenidən ifaya baxın və şəklinizdə göstərilən nümunə jestləri izləyin.
  • en It's time to enter the product key. When you connect to the Internet, we'll activate Windows for you. -> Məhsul açarını daxil etməyin vaxtıdır. Siz İnternetə qoşulanda Windows-u sizin üçün aktivləşdirəcəyik

Inclusive language

  • Comply with local language laws.
  • Use plain language. Use straightforward, concrete, familiar words. Use a two-syllable word over a three-syllable word, or several clear words instead of one complicated term.
  • Be mindful when you refer to parts of the world. If you name cities, countries or regions in examples, make sure they are not politically disputed.
  • In examples that refer to several regions, use equivalent references. Do not mix countries with states or continents.
  • In text and images, represent diverse perspectives and circumstances. Show people from all walks of life in a wide variety of professions, educational settings, locales and economic settings.
  • Do not generalize or stereotype people by region, culture, age or gender, not even a positive stereotype. When representing job roles, choose names that reflect a variety of gender identities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Do not use profane or derogatory terms.
  • Do not use slang that could be considered cultural appropriation.
  • Do not use terms that may carry unconscious racial bias, or terms associated with military actions, politics, or controversial historical events and eras.
  • master/slave -> primary/subordinate; sahib/qul -> əsas/yardımçı
  • demilitarized zone (DMZ) -> perimeter network; demilitarizasiya edilmiş zona (DMZ) -> perimetr şəbəkəsi
  • hang -> stop responding; asın -> söhbəti dayandırın
  • guru -> expert; quru -> ekspert
  • guys; ladies and gentlemen -> colleagues; everyone; all; yoldaşlar; xanımlar və cənablar -> həmkarlar; hər kəs; dostlar
  • mother or father -> parent; ana və ya ata -> valideyn

Avoid gender bias

  • Use gender-neutral alternatives for common terms. Avoid compounds containing gender-specific terms (kişi, qadın).
  • kişi sözü -> etibarlı insan sözü: etibarlı insan sözü means "reliable person's word"; kişi sözü means "man's word."
  • kişi kimi yaşamaq -> mərd insan kimi yaşamaq: mərd insan kimi yaşamaq means "to live as brave person"; kişi kimi yaşamaq means "to live as a man."
  • For generalizations, use plural noun forms, for example insanlar, fərdlər, tələbələr.
  • There are no specific guidelines for pronouns; Azerbaijani has no gendered pronouns.

Accessibility

  • Focus on people, not disabilities.
  • Do not use words that imply pity, such as dilxor olan və ya əzab çəkən.
  • Do not mention a disability unless it is relevant.
  • handicapped -> person with a disability; əlil -> imkanları məhdud olan şəxs
  • normal person; healthy person -> person without a disability; normal insan; sağlam insan -> imkanları məhdud olmayan şəxs
  • Use generic verbs that apply to all input methods and devices. In procedures and instructions, avoid verbs that make no sense with alternative input methods.
  • Click -> Select; Klikləyin -> Seçin
  • Keep paragraphs short and sentence structure simple. Aim for one verb per sentence. Read text aloud and imagine it spoken by a screen reader.
  • Spell out words like və, üstəgəl, haqqında. Screen readers can misread text with special characters like &, + and ~.

Abbreviations

  • Abbreviate some words in the UI (mainly button or option names) only for lack of space.
  • Do not abbreviate any word down to less than three letters; it stops being comprehensible.
  • End abbreviations with a consonant and a period, except for scientific symbols and measurement units.
  • To add an affix after an abbreviation, put the period first and then the suffix.
  • məsələn -> məs.
  • və sairə -> və s.
  • telefon -> tel.
  • bu kimi -> b.k.
  • azərbaycanca -> azərb.
  • dəqiqə -> dəq.
  • saniyə -> san.
  • eramızdan əvvəl -> e.ə
  • bizim eranın -> b.e.

Acronyms

  • Acronyms are made of the initial letters of major parts of a compound term: WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), DNS (Domain Name Server), HTML (Hypertext Markup Language).
  • Write acronyms with capital letters. Some acronyms, such as Laser, have become common nouns; treat them as such.
  • Localize an English acronym into another acronym or abbreviation, or leave the original acronym untranslated when readers recognize it widely, or add a description when Azerbaijani has no equal term.
  • en UN -> BMT
  • en USA -> ABŞ
  • en AD -> M
  • en BC -> SM
  • en ASEAN -> simply ASEAN
  • en LASER -> LASER
  • Localize an English word or phrase into an Azerbaijani acronym or abbreviation to make the target text shorter and simpler, or when the Azerbaijani acronym is more popular or acceptable to readers.
  • en drugs -> narkotik maddə
  • en people with AIDS -> QİCS xəstələri
  • en General Shareholder Meeting -> Baş Səhmdarlar İclası
  • en Anniversary of -> İldönümü
  • If an acronym must stay in English throughout a text, write it in English in normal style at first occurrence, followed in parentheses by the full form and its Azerbaijani equivalent.
  • en AP -> AP (Access Point/Giriş Nöqtəsi)
  • en POS -> POS (Point of Sale/Satış Nöqtəsi)
  • en UI -> UI (User Interface/İstifadəçi İnterfeysi)

Adjectives

  • Localize adjectives directly with the appropriate terminology. There are no limitations.
  • en Windows 11 is a fast operating system. -> Windows 11 sürətli əməliyyat sistemidir.
  • Usually omit possessive adjectives (your keyboard, your software) and use only affixes, as in my computer. The omission does not affect the meaning, because the personal pronoun is implicit in the verbal form.

Articles

  • Azerbaijani has no articles. Usually omit them in the target translation.
  • Render articles carefully, per context.
  • Do not always translate definite and indefinite articles the same way.
  • Do not always use bir for indefinite articles.
  • Definite articles inflect the related words with proper suffixes.
  • Treat product names and non-translated feature names as proper nouns.
  • en Windows Autopilot -> Windows Autopilot
  • en Windows Analytics -> Windows Analytics
  • Translated feature names take a definite or indefinite article; they are not proper names.
  • en Hide the Task Manager when it is minimized -> Kiçildikdə Tapşırıq Menecerini gizlədin
  • For an English loan word, check motivation, analogy and frequency. Loan words usually follow the syntactic and morphological rules of Azerbaijani.
  • en Task Manager -> Tapşırıq Meneceri

Capitalization

  • English headings capitalize all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and subordinate conjunctions such as that, until, which. Do not apply this to Azerbaijani headings. Follow normal Azerbaijani capitalization rules. The same rule applies to software strings.
  • If the first word of the English source is capitalized, capitalize the first word of the target. If it is not, do not, unless Azerbaijani rules say otherwise.
  • Do not mimic source capitalization. Apply Azerbaijani spelling conventions. Over-capitalization is awkward and makes the translation materials inconsistent.
  • If one capitalized English noun becomes two Azerbaijani words, be consistent: capitalize both, neither, or one. Apply spelling rules consistently.
  • Capitalize the first letter of menus and commands, for example File, Insert.
  • Capitalize the first letter of the word in a phrase made of several words, for example İdarə paneli.
  • Capitalize the first letter of a sentence, an indentation and a title.
  • Capitalize the first letter of abbreviated names of months and days, for example Yan, İyn, B.e, Tel.
  • Keep names of products that cannot be translated into Azerbaijani as in the original.
  • For names of days, months, peoples, nations and languages, refer to the normative sources.

Compounds

  • Keep compounds understandable and clear. Avoid long or complex compounds. Unintuitive compounds hurt intelligibility and usability.
  • Main compound types: two nouns without affixation; two verbs with different infixes between them; simple adjective stem plus noun stem; two common nouns plus participle; repetition of two nouns with a hyphen; numeral plus numeral.
  • en Multi window -> Çoxpəncərəli, not Çoxsaylı pəncərə

Conjunctions

  • Starting a sentence with a conjunction conveys an informal tone and style.
  • Convey the voice through similar use of contractions.
  • Avoid slashes wherever possible. In many cases substitute the conjunction və.
  • en After getting new features, old features can be incorrectly displayed.: Cihaz yeni funksiyalar əldə etdikdən sonra köhnə məzmunun düzgün göstərilməmə təhlükəsi var. -> Yeni funksiyalara görə köhnə məzmun düzgün göstərilməyə bilər.
  • en If missing files are on the other device, you can sync other devices with this one.: Olmayan fayllar digər cihazdadırsa, digər cihazları bu cihazla sinxronlaşdıra bilərsiniz. -> Əgər olmayan fayllar digər cihazdadırsa, digər cihazları bu cihazla sinxronlaşdıra bilərsiniz.
  • en This indicated strength of the current connection. The more the bars, the stronger the signal is.: Bu göstərici cari şəbəkənin gücünü göstərir. Beləki, zolaqların sayı hazırkı siqnalının gücünün səviyyəsini əks etdirir. -> Bu göstərici hazırkı şəbəkənin gücünü göstərir. Zolaq nə qədər çox olarsa, hazırkı siqnal bir o qədər güclü olar.

Genitive

  • Add to a product or component name with a hyphen, or use a periphrastic construction.
  • Do not attach a genitive s to product names; it could read as a modification of the name.
  • en Microsoft's products -> wrong Microsoftun məhsulları
  • en Microsoft products -> Microsoft-un məhsulları
  • en Products by Microsoft -> Microsoft məhsulları

Localizing colloquialism, idioms, and metaphors

  • Do not replace a source colloquialism with an Azerbaijani one unless it is a perfect and natural fit for the context.
  • Translate the intended meaning, not the literal colloquialism, and only if the meaning is integral to the text.
  • Omit the colloquialism if the meaning stays the same without it.
  • en Let the cat out of the bag -> Sirri ifşa etmək

Modifiers

  • A modifier adds information to another element in the sentence. It can be an adjective, an adverb, or a phrase or clause acting as one.
  • en Graham -> Graham şirkəti

Nouns

  • Azerbaijani is agglutinative, so affixes dominate. All cases are formed with their specific suffixes.
  • English has two cases, common and genitive. Translate the common case into different cases by the position and meaning of the noun. As a rule, translate the genitive case as is.
  • Add the plurality suffix after the root of the noun to make it plural.
  • A noun does not agree with numbers in quantity and does not take the plurality suffix with numbers.
  • en Show gridlines -> Tor xətlərini göstər
  • en Show in two pages -> İki səhifədə göstər

Prepositions

  • Use prepositions correctly. Do not omit them or change word order under English influence.
  • Starting or ending a sentence with a preposition is acceptable.
  • Prepositions do not exist in Azerbaijani as a separate part of speech. Azerbaijani uses syntactic case marking on nouns.
  • Adding demonstrative pronouns in the target is possible, but avoid it.
  • en migrate to -> miqrasiya edin, not bura miqrasiya edin; comment Fayllara miqrasiya edin
  • en Migrate from -> avoid buradan miqrasiya edin; comment Fayllardan miqrasiya edin
  • en import to -> avoid bura idxal edin
  • en import from -> avoid buradan idxal edin
  • en export to -> avoid bura ixrac edin
  • en export from -> avoid buradan ixrac edin
  • en update to -> təzələyin
  • en upgrade to -> yeniləyin
  • en change to -> dəyişdirin
  • en click on -> klikləyin
  • en connect to -> qoşulun
  • en welcome to ... -> …. xoş gəlmisiniz

Pronouns

  • Azerbaijani is agglutinative and marks possession with affixes, not a separate pronoun.
  • Omit possessive pronouns and adjectives in translations (your keyboard, your software) unless they are needed, as in My computer. The omission does not affect the meaning, because the personal pronoun is implicit in the verbal form.
  • Do not ignore these affixes in the Azerbaijani text, but do not overuse the possessive suffix, or the text becomes too heavy. Use them so the final text reads natural.
  • en Windows cannot start your system. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator. -> Windows sisteminizi başlada bilmir. Problem davam edərsə, şəbəkə inzibatçınızla əlaqə saxlayın. Avoid the possessive marker your unless ownership matters in context.

Punctuation

  • Azerbaijani uses a character set based on the Latin alphabet. Put a space after punctuation marks, including commas and periods.
  • en User can access user data such as contact. -> İstifadəçi kontaktlar kimi istifadəçi məlumatına daxil ola bilər.
  • Comma: use lowercase after a comma, unless the word needs a capital. For exceptions, see the normative sources.
  • en Remote phone user can access user data such as contacts, messages and files. -> Uzaq telefonun istifadəçisi kontaktlar, mesajlar və fayllar kimi istifadəçi məlumatına daxil ola bilər.
  • en For example you can create a group like: Friends or Family, or Office -> Məsələn, Dostlar, Ailə və ya Ofis kimi gruplar yarada bilərsiniz.
  • Use a comma after for example in Azerbaijani.
  • Do not repeat or between homogenous parts of the sentence; it is not grammatically correct in Azerbaijani. Put a comma after the homogenous words and use or only between the last two.
  • When the phrase for example comes in the middle of the sentence, put a comma before and after it.
  • Do not use a comma before the etc. abbreviation. Put a period after it everywhere.
  • Colon: put a single space after a colon. Put no space before a colon.
  • en Below instructions apply to localization: -> Tərcüməyə bu qaydalar tətbiq edilir:
  • Hyphen: divides words between syllables, links parts of a compound word, and connects the parts of an inverted or imperative verb form. Follow hyphenation rules when breaking single words. Additions to a product or component name also take a hyphen.
  • In Azerbaijani a hyphen has no spaces before or after. Do not use it instead of a dash. Example: İnternet-mağaza
  • En dash: minus sign, usually with spaces before and after. Omit the space only when the minus shows a negative number. Keep the source format; Azerbaijani has no special rules. Example: 1 – 2 = –1
  • En dash also marks number ranges, such as page numbers. No spaces around it in that case. Example: Səhifə 3–5
  • Em dash: use only to emphasize an isolated element or introduce an element that is not essential to the meaning.
  • en When the car was finally delivered—after 3 months—she refused to buy it. -> Avtomobil nəhayət çatdırıldıqda—3 ay sonra—o, almaqdan imtina etdi.
  • Ellipsis … marks an intentional omission of a word or phrase from the original text, a pause in speech, an unfinished thought, or the end of a sentence. After a status message it signifies that an operation may take some time.
  • en Downloading updates... -> Yeniləmələr yüklənir…
  • en Sending account... -> Hesab göndərilir…
  • Remove all spaces before the ellipsis sign, even when the source text has them.
  • Period: use a period in all complete sentences. Capitalize the following word, unless the period belongs to an abbreviation. When an abbreviation ends a sentence, write only one period.
  • Do not use a period in titles or headings.
  • Quotation marks: use them when referring to an original source or speech. US source strings may carry English quotation marks around software references.
  • Kinds of quotation marks: chevrons « », curly quotation marks “ ”, straight quotation marks " ", simple quotation marks ‘ ’. Prefer straight quotation marks.
  • Do not use angle brackets <> instead of quotation marks.
  • Write the cited text between quotation marks.
  • Parentheses: no space between the parentheses and the text inside them, in English and in Azerbaijani.
  • en (soft) -> (proq)

Sentence fragments

  • Use sentence fragments wherever possible. They are short and to the point.
  • en Use the following steps. -> en fragment Here's how
  • en Use the following steps.: Aşağıdakı addımlardan istifadə edin. -> Bu qaydada:
  • en Before installing the program prepare the following:: Proqramı quraşdırmazdan əvvəl aşağıda sadalananları hazırlayın: -> Proqramı quraşdırmazdan əvvəl aşağıdakıları hazırlayın:
  • en For additional information, see:: Əlavə məlumat üçün bunu nəzərdən keçirin: -> Əlavə məlumat üçün baxın:
  • en Error occurred while resizing the image. Try again later.: Şəklin ölçüsünü azaldarkən səhv baş verdi. Daha sonra cəhd edin. -> Şəklin ölçüsünü azaldarkən səhv. Daha sonra cəhd edin.

Subjunctive

  • The subjunctive mood expresses unreal or problematic actions, that is non-facts. Translate such sentences as the certain form of the verb.
  • en I wish it was still in use. -> Kaş hələ də istifadə edilərdi.

Symbols

  • Always translate & as and when it refers to running text.
  • Do not keep & in the target, unless it is part of a tag, placeholder, shortcut or other type of code.

Verbs

  • Use simple tenses. The simple present is easiest to understand. Avoid future tense unless the event really happens in the future and the simple present does not work. Use simple past for events that already happened.
  • Be consistent in how you translate verbs in error messages.
  • English sometimes omits the predicate be in error messages. Always translate to be in Azerbaijani even when the source omits it, and stay consistent across all error messages.
  • Be concise without changing the meaning of the source string.
  • en The document is too large. / Document too large. -> Sənəd çox böyükdür. Be consistent in your use of the verb to be.
  • en Access was denied. / Access denied. -> Girişdən imtina edildi. In complete sentences, use verbs and the same tense as in the source string.
  • en The file "%s" is an unknown graphics format. -> "%s" faylının qrafik formatı naməlumdur. Rephrase is with have if necessary.
  • en The application may attempt to convert the graphic. -> Proqram qrafiki dəyişdirməyə cəhd edə bilər. may + verb can be rephrased as verb + possibly.
  • en A problem occurred while trying to connect to the network share "%1!s!." -> "%1!s!" şəbəkə paylaşdırılmasına qoşularkən səhv baş verdi. Shorten and rephrase if necessary to A problem occurred while connecting to the network share "%1!s!".
  • en The following error occurred: "%1!s!"(error #%2!lx!) -> Səhv: "%1!s!" (səhv #%2!lx!) Shorten where possible, for example Error: "%1!s!" (error #%2!lx!).
  • en An unknown error has occurred./ No error occurred. -> Naməlum səhv. / Səhv yoxdur. Shorten where possible, for example Unknown error./ No error.

Localization considerations

  • Adapt the translated text to local language, customs and standards.
  • Give the product the look and feel of a product written in Azerbaijani (Latin). Use idiomatic syntax and terminology. Keep terminology consistent.

Accessibility

  • Accessibility options and programs make the computer usable by people with cognitive, hearing, physical or visual disabilities.
  • Hardware and software components use a flexible, customizable UI, alternative input and output methods, and greater exposure of screen elements.
  • Some accessible products and services may not be available in Azerbaijani-speaking markets. Double-check with the appropriate resources.

Applications, products, and features

  • Application and product names are rarely translated. Feature names are occasionally trademarked too, for example IntelliSense™. Verify that a name is translatable and not protected before you translate it.
  • Localize product names that are very well localizable or contain a well localizable part.
  • Always translate the preposition for in product names, unless the whole product name including for is trademarked or copyrighted.
  • en Windows Hello for Business -> Biznes üçün Windows Hello
  • Version numbers always contain a period, for example Version 4.2.
  • en 4.2 -> 4.2
  • Version numbers are usually part of version strings, but are not the same thing.

Software considerations

  • Translate all menus, menu items, commands, buttons and check boxes consistently.

Error messages

  • Error messages inform the user of an error that must be corrected for the program to keep running. They can prompt the user to act or tell the user that the computer must reboot.
  • Make the translation natural and empathetic, not robot-like.
  • en Something went wrong. -> Bir problem yarandı.
  • en Not enough memory to process this command. -> Bu əmrin icrası üçün yaddaş azdır.
  • Use consistent terminology and language style. Do not just translate the US strings as they appear.
  • Standardize standard phrases. The US sometimes uses different forms for the same thing. Use another wording only when it works better in context.
  • en Cannot … -> Mümkün deyil
  • en Could not … -> Mümkün olmadı; example Yükləmək mümkün deyil
  • en Failed to …, Failure of … -> Uğursuz nəticələndi; example Yükləmə uğursuz nəticələndi
  • en Cannot find …, Could not find … -> Tapılmır
  • en Unable to find …, Unable to locate … -> Tapılmadı; example Yükləmə tapılmır
  • en Not enough memory, Insufficient memory, There is not enough memory, There is not enough memory available -> Yaddaşda yer azdır; example Yaddaşda yer azdır
  • en ... is not available, ... is unavailable -> … mövcud deyil; example Fayl mövcud deyil
  • With placeholders, find out what will replace the placeholder, so the sentence stays grammatical.
  • %d, %ld, %u, %lu mean <number>; %c means <letter>; %s means <string>.
  • "Checking Web %1!d! of %2!d!" means "Checking Web <number> of <number>."
  • "INI file "%1!-.200s!" section" means "INI file "<string>" section."

Keys

  • References to key names, like arrow keys, function keys and numeric keys, appear in normal text, not in small caps.
  • Do not translate names of keys that appear on the keyboard.
  • Alt -> Alt
  • Backspace -> Backspace
  • Break -> Break
  • Caps Lock -> Caps Lock
  • Ctrl -> Control
  • Delete -> Delete
  • Down Arrow -> Aşağı ox

  • Enter -> Enter
  • Esc -> Escape
  • Home -> Home
  • Insert -> Insert
  • Left Arrow -> Sola ox
  • Num Lock -> Num Lock
  • Page Down -> Page Down
  • Page Up -> Page Up
  • Pause -> Pause
  • Right Arrow -> Sağ ox
  • Scroll Lock -> Scroll Lock
  • Shift -> Shift
  • Spacebar -> Boşluq düyməsi
  • Tab -> Tab
  • Up Arrow -> Yuxarı ox
  • Windows key -> Windows düyməsi
  • Menu Key -> Menyu düyməsi
  • Print Screen -> Print Screen

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Underlined or highlighted letters in menu options, commands or dialog boxes are keyboard shortcuts.
  • Examples: New, Cancel, Options.
  • Slim characters, such as I, l, t, r, f, can be used as keyboard shortcuts: No.
  • Characters with downstrokes, such as g, j, y, p, q, can be used as keyboard shortcuts: No. The keyboard shortcut underline is hard to see for these characters. Example: Option
  • Extended characters can be used as keyboard shortcuts: Yes.
  • An additional letter in brackets after the item name can be used as a keyboard shortcut: Yes.
  • A number in brackets after the item name can be used as a keyboard shortcut: Yes.
  • A punctuation sign in brackets after the item name can be used as a keyboard shortcut: Yes.
  • Duplicate keyboard shortcuts are allowed when no other character is available: Yes.
  • No keyboard shortcut is assigned when no more characters are available (minor options only): Yes.
  • access key: a subtype of keyboard shortcut. A letter or number the user types to reach UI controls that have text labels. Access keys go on top-level controls so the user can move through the UI quickly with the keyboard. Example: F in Alt+F. In UI localization: H&ome. Most access keys are used with the Alt key.
  • key tip: the letter or number that appears in the ribbon when the user presses Alt. In UI localization the key tip is the last character after the ` character. Example: Home`H
  • shortcut key: a subtype of keyboard shortcut. A key the user types to perform a common action without going through the UI. Shortcut keys are not available for every command. Example: Ctrl+N, Ctrl+V. Most shortcut keys are used with the Ctrl key. Ctrl+letter combinations and function keys (F1 through F12) are usually the best choices.
