Hiligaynon style guide

This brief supplement covers voice and terminology. It is not a complete grammar. Apply the shared localization review and house voice; adaptations are acknowledged in credits.

Local usage

Use formal Hiligaynon with ordinary, understandable words. Keep technical terminology and the chosen level of formality consistent across messages, help, and related interface strings.

Choose terminology for the actual operation and audience. Retain an established technical borrowing when it is clearer than an unfamiliar replacement; do not use this as a blanket prohibition on translating technical terms.

Interface review

Use a proficient Hiligaynon reviewer to check forms of address, affixes and borrowed terms. A Tagalog example does not establish a Hiligaynon rule. Keep related strings consistent without treating the languages as interchangeable.

Review labels with the action they trigger and messages with real substituted values. Preserve the distinction between a request, an operation in progress and a completed result. Test counts and text expansion in the interface; a short label must still identify its action and object.
