Kashmiri (Perso-Arabic) style guide¶
Apply these local conventions alongside the house voice and localization review. Source acknowledgments are in credits.
Address and terminology¶
Write clear, respectful Kashmiri and keep the chosen form of address consistent. The supplied guide uses a formal “you.” Its extracted spelling تُہۍ contains U+06CD; it must not become a template for encoding Kashmiri palatalization. Check the intended word against approved terminology and the Kashmiri-yeh distinction below.
This page covers the Perso-Arabic script. Use Kashmiri in Devanagari for that script's conventions. Sharing an Arabic-script base does not make Kashmiri and Urdu interchangeable translations.
Preserve the actor, object, owner, condition and uncertainty when recasting English syntax. A noun meaning “document” is not an article that can automatically replace “their document.” Avoid mechanical pronoun substitutions that turn one person into several people or change a relevant relationship.
Characters and direction¶
Perso-Arabic text runs right to left; embedded Latin names and numeric sequences can run left to right. Store the logical reading order and let the layout engine display it. English punctuation does not inherently corrupt the text. See bidirectional text for isolating inserted names, versions, dates and filenames.
There is no uppercase/lowercase distinction in this script, but letters can change shape with joining context. Retained Latin names, acronyms and identifiers keep their required case. Preserve dots and vowel marks. A paragraph about Devanagari nuktas is not a reason to delete Arabic-script marks.
Unicode distinguishes these character choices:

Check the actual characters as well as the glyphs. A font with an older Kashmiri-yeh shape can mislead a visual comparison. Rendering failure is not a reason to substitute a different letter. Review normalization, joining, selection and copy/paste in the target font.
Punctuation and abbreviations¶
Use the appropriate punctuation in ordinary Kashmiri prose: ۔ for a full stop, ، for a comma, ؛ for a semicolon and ؟ for a question mark. Parentheses around a character in a reference table are not part of that character. Keep literal punctuation inside 4.2, a filename or required input.
Complete sentence bullets take sentence punctuation; short phrases do not. Recast cumbersome dash-separated prose, preserve range endpoints and distinguish a range such as 30–52 from a negative value such as −10 °C. Use quotation marks for quotations and house UI formatting for labels.
The supplied abbreviation convention omits a final dot and retains OTP in both singular and plural contexts. The complete message must still distinguish one code from several codes. Do not add an English plural s or infer a neutral-gender rule for every borrowed term. Explain unfamiliar acronyms in Kashmiri; a transcription of their letters is not an expansion of their meaning.
Numbers, dates and interface review¶
Keep exact measurements, limits and input values numeric. Use 30 cm, 1 h and 20 °C, retaining the unit's fixed case and a nonbreaking value/unit space. Test percentage spacing and digit choices with the actual locale formatter; do not reverse the source string to imitate its display.
Use day–month–year order for ordinary numeric dates, with a four-digit year: 25/04/1989. The supplied five-Y pattern is a typo. A month-and-year source retains its month and year; do not invent a day.

Keep the value in that same logical order when selecting or copying it. Use the conjunction تہٕ in prose; retain & in protected names, markup and literal tokens.
Follow accessible content and preserve the required interface action. “Healthy” does not mean “without a disability.” Do not replace every gesture with selection or enforce one verb per sentence.
